Saturday, May 16, 2026 at the Kyle Log House - Kyle, TX
Celebrate National Historic Preservation Month with Preservation Texas! Join us on May 16th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for an exclusive member tour and gathering at the Claiborne Kyle Log House (2400 Old Stagecoach Road). Enjoy an afternoon of great food, music, and a silent auction in a one-of-a-kind historic setting. RSVP by May 12.
About the Kyle Log House
Built circa 1850 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Kyle Log House is an extremely rare dogtrot log home that remains on its original site on a bluff above the Blanco River. The property is owned by Hays County and maintained by the Claiborne Kyle Log House Commission. After several years of being closed to the public, the Commission is opening the house exclusively for Preservation Texas members during this event.
About the Event
Guests will get a first look at updated exhibits inside the Kyle Log House, showcasing new discoveries from recent research. The event will include a Texas-style lunch with barbecue and fried chicken, complemented by homemade Dutch oven biscuits and “cowboy coffee” served from an authentic chuck wagon originally from the Four Sixes Ranch. The silent auction will feature antique items, Texas-themed gifts, and unique experiences.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to explore an important site that is not usually open to the public, learn about its history, and connect with others while supporting Preservation Texas—the statewide nonprofit dedicated to historic preservation.

Silent Auction
We are currently seeking donations of items and services for the silent auction. We are especially interested in antique and vintage items, Texas-themed gifts, professional services related to architecture and landscaping, unique experiences such as guest house stays, meals, or wine tastings, discounts from local businesses, artwork, and books. If you would like to donate an item or service for the silent auction, please email hunick@preservationtexas.org.
All proceeds from the auction will support Preservation Texas’s statewide mission: to empower Texans to preserve their cultural heritage, and steward significant buildings collections, and cultural landscapes to ensure their permanent protection.
