A vital program of Preservation Texas, the Texas’ Most Endangered Places program (MEP), was initiated in 2003 to focus attention, encourage appreciation, and to generate support for threatened historic properties. From historic schools, missions, and courthouses to inner city neighborhoods and “main street” communities, Texas is a state with enormous diversity and significant historic resources. Each year, more and more of the state’s historic properties fall victim to commercial development, neglect or suburban sprawl.
The Texas’ Most Endangered Places program is at its heart a grassroots effort designed to elevate the cause of historic preservation and to increase the capacity of local groups and individuals to preserve the historic resources in their communities.
Through Partners in the Field, PT provides services to at-risk historic properties by:
- Leveraging and fostering partnerships
- Coordinating assistance: ranging from advocacy & technical services
- Showing relevance of preservation in community
- Directing access to information
- Empower stewards of MEP sites
