Preservation Texas is seeking nominations for the
2011 Texas’ Most Endangered Places
list.

Texas is a state with enormous diversity and significant historic resources.  Every year, more and more of our state’s treasures are lost due to neglect or demolition.  We urge you to join us to save Texas’ Most Endangered Places.

Preservation Texas is accepting nominations for the 2011 Texas’ Most Endangered Places. Nominations must be postmarked by October 15, 2010. The selected properties will be announced in February 2011 in Austin during Preservation Day events.

How will sites be chosen for the 2011 Texas’ Most Endangered Places list?

  • Significance. Significance is the architectural, artistic, and/or historic importance of a site within its cultural, social, or geographical context.   Each place is judged within its context.
  • Urgency of threat. Urgency is defined as the need for immediate action to stop or reverse serious threats.  Threats can be demolition; or alterations that would change the integrity of the building or structure; or significant loss of historic fabric through neglect; or a new development plan or transportation plan that could affect the site in the future.
  • Potential Solutions and Support. There must be clear evidence of local support for the preservation of the site.


How To Apply

Download a nomination form and submit one hard copy and one digital copy (either on cd or via e-mail) to Preservation Texas. Nominations must be postmarked by October 15, 2010. A complete nomination includes:

  • Completed nomination form, including a summary of the place and description of the threat, which must meet the criteria above (significance, urgency, and potential solutions).
  • At least 3 high-quality images High-resolution digital images (at least 1-2 MB in size) are a requirement of this program and must be submitted (with captions and credits) for the nomination to be considered.     If selected, images will be used for print and web publications, so please obtain release authorization from photographers.
  • At least three (3) letters of support for the importance of saving the site
