2026 Central Texas Preservation Month Party at the Kyle Log House - May 16
Join us Saturday, May 16, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for an exclusive tour and lunch at the historic Kyle Log House in celebration of National Historic Preservation Month!
Enjoy BBQ brisket, ribs, fried chicken, homemade biscuits, and cobbler, browse our silent auction, and get a first look at brand-new exhibits at this one-of-a-kind historic site which has not been open to the public since 2020.
Admission is now only $20 per person (or $10 for kids 12 and under) thanks to the generous support of our sponsors: The Claiborne Kyle Log House Commission, Kate & Bill Johnson, Martha & Chris Griffith, Alice & Phil Lebkuecher, and Premier Cuts.
ABOUT THE KYLE LOG HOUSE
Built circa 1850 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Kyle Log House is an extremely rare dogtrot log home that remains on its original site on a bluff above the Blanco River. The property is owned by Hays County and maintained by the Claiborne Kyle Log House Commission. After being closed for several years, the site will reopen for the first time during this special event!
Over the past year, Preservation Texas has assisted the Commission with several projects, including coordinating the county-funded wood shingle roof replacement and a ground-penetrating radar study.
ABOUT THE EVENT
Admission includes a Texas-style lunch of BBQ and fried chicken, plus campfire Dutch oven biscuits, cobbler, and cowboy coffee served from an authentic chuck wagon originally from the legendary 6666 Ranch (pictured below).
The silent auction will feature antique items, Texas-themed gifts, and unique local experiences. Updated exhibits inside the Kyle Log House will showcase new discoveries from recent research. Children are welcome. The event will happen rain or shine under a big tent!
