First Independent Baptist Church
The First Independent Baptist Church of Corsicana was completed in 1918 to house a congregation that was established in 1868. The building has been home to many civil rights meetings and community events over the course of its history. The building is still used by the congregation that has plans to address major structural issues so they can continue to meet here.
In 2022, this project was awarded a $75,000 grant through Preservation Texas’s Rural African-American Heritage Grants Program to stop water infiltration into the building which was causing structural deterioration and damaging the interior.
