Macedonia Rock School

The Macedonia “Rock School” was completed in 1942 to provide assembly and program space, vocational classrooms, and a principal’s office for the Macedonia community’s existing Rosenwald School, which was built in 1926. The Rock School building project received New Deal funding through the National Youth Administration, which taught area youths how to quarry local stone and erect a rock building that would stand the test of time. With the consolidation of Linden and Kildare Independent School Districts in 1959, smaller campuses were closed, and the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church purchased the Rock School for use as a fellowship hall.

The Macedonia Rock School has been awarded a $50,000 grant through Preservation Texas’s Rural African-American Heritage Grants Program, and the congregation will rehabilitate the building for future church and community use.
